Poor Pluto

We recently videotaped Raaga's thoughts on Crimea situation, St. Patty's day and how she thinks St. Patrick is needed in Crimea to ask people to stop fighting and be happy. At dinner time last night, our little reporter was informed of the latest there. That Russia got Crimea and Ukraine didn't. That President Obama is helping Ukraine out, and that many countries are not happy with Russia. I could not capture her thoughts on video this time, but here's her perception of the matter:

  1. Russia snatched Crimea from Ukraine and that's not very nice. Did Russia get a time out?
  2. Russia made Ukraine sad. Did President Obama give Ukraine tissue to wipe tears?
  3. I want to become a president when I grow up so I can help poor countries like Ukraine.
  4. (and once the initial steam was let out) I can still bake cakes, design beautiful dresses and make beautiful flower arrangements when I grow up, right?
Her dad and I were chuckling, especially at her (after)thought#4. We then moved on to chat about the pink icy 'dwarf planet' VP that was also in the news this week. I personally am fascinated by the enormity of our solar system, how it would take VP over 4000 years to circle around the Sun and how astrophysicists figured out that it is -400F on VP's surface, just sitting at some observatory in Chile. I kept talking more about America's favorite scientist, Prof. Neil DeGrass Tyson, Cosmos, Sedna, the icy Kuiper Belt and its largest known resident, Pluto. Trust me, I was fully aware that I lost my 4yr old's attention on astrophysics seconds after the mention of something pink and icy.

But then, after I was done doing my spiel about my own obsessions, she said "Poor Pluto. They don't call him* a planet anymore because he is too small". Pluto now has another addition to its fan club, a real sweet one, I might add! :)

Love for Pluto reinforced at breakfast via her depiction of solar system, notice the P on lower right!

*: Apparently Pluto is a boy. I stand corrected. :)
